On July 20, 1969, NASA’s Apollo 11 mission made history by landing the first humans on the Moon. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended in the Lunar Module “Eagle,” while Michael Collins orbited in the Command Module. Armstrong’s iconic words, “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind,” marked the moment he stepped onto the lunar surface. The mission showcased remarkable technological innovation and international cooperation during the Cold War. It fulfilled President Kennedy’s 1961 goal. The crew collected lunar samples and experiments before safely returning to Earth on July 24, 1969.
