Ivy faced tough setbacks chasing science. After failing her O-levels twice, especially in physics, maths, and chemistry, she joked that if those subjects were men, she'd castrate them. Discouraged but not defeated, a heart-to-heart with her father—a journalist who paints visions with words—revived her hope. He described her struggle as “walking uphill on gravels with bare feet.” His metaphor lit a fire in her. With renewed strength, Ivy passed on her third try.
